Re: How would you Nuclear Hardened Your Apple?

George is correct about an EMP (ElectroMagneticPulse) be it generated from a
nuclear bomb, solar flare, solar storm or any other method. It would wipe out
most all magnetic media storage device contents and destroy many electronic and
computer components.

Perhaps he's concerned about future man-made and/or natural events that could
generate an EMP sufficient to cause such damage. People certainly should be
concerned about such possibilities too. It could happen at any time.

"High Power Electromagnetic Pulse generation techniques and High Power
Microwave technology have matured to the point where practical E-bombs
(Electromagnetic bombs) are becoming technically feasible, with new
applications in both Strategic and Tactical Information Warfare. The
development of conventional E-bomb devices allows their use in non-nuclear
confrontations."

See the article I quote from above at this URL:

The above article and report gives you a good review and outline on building a
computer room hardened against an EMP. I would back up all my magnetic media on
CD's and store them all in an EMP resistant and shielded container to be
absolutely safe and secure with protecting it all from such an EMP event
happening. I already have a storage building and a room that meets these needs
containing all of my
computers, media storage devices and EMP sensitive components.

The most effective method is to wholly contain the equipment, devices and
magnetic storage media in an electrically conductive enclosure, termed a
Faraday cage, which prevents the electromagnetic field from gaining access to
the protected equipment.

An EMP has little if any permanent damaging effect
on humans. Thus, a properly designed, sized and constructed Faraday cage to
hold your equipment, media storage devices and components which would be
susceptible to damage by an EMP would be the best thing to use as a safe guard
and preventative.
