It is my understanding that SASI (Shugart Associates System Interface)
was the predecessor of SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface).  SCSI
is a public (vs. proprietary) clean-up, elaboration, and extension of SASI.

The deal to open SASI in the process of extending and standardizing it
was cut in a Silicon Valley athletic club.  (If I could remember the story
I heard about this years ago, and the name of the club (on the Southwest
Expressway), I think that SCSI actually has a double meaning having to
do with the name of the club!)
