Think world, not US. The US market was a bit more fragmented, and
places like Japan always went their own way.
So what did American home users own in the late 80s? Europe was
pretty much saturated with Amigas and Ataris, and the PC didn't become
a hit until the 386 with VGA became affordable, and then we're well
into the 90s.

The A1000 wasn't really a home computer, it was far too expensive for
that. A500 won a lot of users over though. I don't have the numbers
here, but the A500 alone sold in millions of units.
