What I'm saying is that virtually all tape technologies have been faster
than floppy drives of the same vintage. Maybe audio cassette tape
technology generally was an exception to that(?), I was thinking more in
general terms of tape cartridge storage, like QIC, 8mm, 4mm DAT, IBM
3490, 3590, LTO and DLT.

Bottom line is that Commodore isn't really an isolated case of "rare
technological genius" in this regard.
