Also the Disk Drives were VERY S*L*O*W. I recall a
C64 friend trying to convince me of the superiority of his machine
and was loading some software. It took so long that we
had to keep checking back with his computer every few minutes.
I took like ten minutes to load. The program may have been
impressive but the load up speed sucked. One day he comes
over to my room and says that he bought some new software
for his machine. It was an accellerator for this C64 drive. He
could now load the program in two minutes. OOOHHH!
I could have loaded a similar program on my computer in
under a minute since mine had a real floppy controller. I
understand that it would even support the use of 720K
3.5" drives with appropriate software/OS's. The built
in Disk Basic only formatted the 35 track 5.25 drives
of the day for a total of 156K.
