A friend of mine got his Apple II plus in the late summer of 1979.  I
know that his didn't have the ctrl-reset option.

I had heard that the original power light indicator on the original
II's caused a number of problems.  Apparently there were quite a few
people that thought the light was the power switch and would snap it
off pressing too hard.  Thus the 1979 switch to the flat white square
indicator.
