Apple IIgs / Iomega Zip Drive Problems

Ok,

I have gotten the Apple IIgs up and running, and i have System 6.0.1 on
floppy disks.  I boot up with Disk #2 and then go to the system tools disk
to get to the Apple IIgs Advanced Disk Utility.  Here is where the problem
is.  The Zip Drive is not seen at all.

I have termination set to on, and have tried both ID 5 and 6.  I have tried
multiple reboots, and have even made sure that the Zip drive was powered on
at least 5 mins and had a disk in the drive before I turned on the Apple
IIgs.

The only thing I can think of now is that perhaps it can not deal with the
zip disk I want to use because it has an IBM format on it.  I want to erase
this disk and use it for just Apple IIgs.  Do I need to get this disk
formatted before the Apple IIgs can see it?  Or am I missing something else
here?

p.s. I am using an actual Apple SCSI card, and I do NOT think it is the HS
version.
