Yes, the hanging stops and it brings me to a cursor.

Should I assume that it's just a faulty controller?  If so, should I
get an exchange for the same controller, or should I get a different
brand?

(I apologize if my questions seem novice, I'm somewhat new to "getting
my hands dirty" with the //e hardware.)
