If clearance is a problem, it can also go under a slot ROM. I've got
one under the ROM on a 3.5" disk controller. The software searches
the slot space as well as the >$D000 space for the clock chip.

I have some of these, too. In fact, in the early 80's I sold these. ;-)
The only issue with the PB inputs was that if the shift key was held
down while the clock was being read, the date would come back as
all zero. Not much of an annoyance in practice, if you think about
how the shift key is actually used. I suppose that a person in the
habit of keying shift-RETURN might have some surprises. ;-)
