In the 80es there were several 8" controllers available. Most of them
used the WD1792 (?) chip, a MFM controller that needs an external data
separator. I have to different types in my collection, but never tried
to get them running.

Most 8" disks had 77 tracks and used 1MB data rate, this is what has
been called "High Density" for the small drives.

The main application for 8" drives was CP/M, with such a drive you could
be compatible with TRS, DEC, Kaypro, etc.
