Perhaps the best things is to have a recommendation from a user there. 
A2Central.com (or the A2 area on Syndicomm, as it's now known) is a 
great service. Being an invalid on a very limited income, I can assure 
you I wouldn't shell out for it if it wasn't really good value for 
money. The daily chats are well attended, with 10 to 20 people being 
online at a time, and some of the most knowledgeable and interesting 
Apple II people at that. The Bulletin Board is a great place to ask and 
answer questions, which are organised so you can see previous discussion 
on a subject easily. The file library is already huge, but still 
growing. There are files there I haven't seen anywhere else.

Ultimately in life you get what you pay for. By contributing to 
A2Central.com you do keep a system running that is designed for Apple II 
people, by Apple II people. The system can readily be accessed by a real 
Apple II, a GS can access it using Spectrum and use the SOAR offline 
reader, or if you prefer, you can access it with my simple TelnetNDA.

Couldn't tell you the exact number, but there's a good crowd over there, 
and it still seems to be growing.

Hopefully the credit card signup option will do that for you. If not $10 
is not that much to spend to try it out is it?
