Just out of curiousity, Roy. Is the disk that doesn't work a high
density floppy that was formatted as an 800K double density disk on
your IIgs? If so you'll need to cover the hole that tells high
density drives that the disk is a high density disk or else the
computer will try to read it as a high density disk.
If it is high density, just put some opaque tape over the hole that
doesn't have the little sliding plastic write protect switch and try
it again.
