Apple's HS.FST is very picky about file and volume names.  You must
strictly adhere to the naming conventions which most modern Macs and
PCs let you circumvent.  I'm not sure of the exact conventions you
have to stick with but a big one is that you can have no spaces in the
names.

There is a GS+ article about this that describes the exact file naming
conventions that must be used along with a patch program that will
relax the HS.FST's restrictions and allow you to use illegal filenames
without a problem.

This may not be your problem but it is something to look into at any
rate.
