Re: What has changed in the Apple world last 6 months?
Why do I like AppleWorks and Apple II computers?
Because they work!
Yes, my district bought the latest software and computers a couple of years ago
for us to crank out paperwork and keep a database of student records. It's
very pretty, very time saving, but very stupid. It's basically a hypercard
database program that can't be changed. Even the programmer hasn't returned
calls (I found another bug in it today). It's tempting me to go back to doing
it all on AppleWorks, as I was doing before the district's forms changed.
When the principal wants a list of my students, I can't print one out without
printing out the ones that are pending. The same goes for his requests by
teacher, track, grade, percentages, which students will be at school and
needing servicing while I'm off-track ... That's why I keep a duplicate set of
records in AppleWorks. It keeps the boss happy with just a few keystrokes to
arrange the data the way that he wants it and 10 seconds to make the printout.
I hate addressing envelopes come progress report and report card times every
six weeks. With the AppleWorks' database, I don't have to. I just print the
labels that I need and slap them on the envelopes. This is what computers are
suppose to do: relieve us of mundane, repetitive tasks.
