Re: What has changed in the Apple world last 6 months?
Hi,
Paul, I don't know long you've used an Apple II, but Appleworks was a
staple of many users (including business users) for years. And with the
upgrades that were made in the past few years (4.0 --> 5.0 ---> Y2K
compliant) it remains a useful tool.
And so while Appleworks may seem outdated, keep in mind that most
people run 4.0-5.0+ on IIGS's or souped up IIe's (1 meg of RAM or
more). So while the II's are "slow", Appleworks is text-based and can
still do calculations pretty well on a souped up machine.
And for these reasons, I think Appleworks is still viable. I
personally don't use AppleWorks anymore (I only have a 128K IIe), but I
can see people still using it.
The only problem is sharing files with those dog-gone PC users. But
if it's a small business, I guess it is entirely possible!
As for me personally, I was happy with my older version of Appleworks
but then school and life caught on. Otherwise I might still be using
it. Appleworks can handle my basketball statistics as well as my PC
(except for the multiple worksheets and cross worksheet calcs).
Just some thoughts,
Don
