UPDATE:
I think the problem may stem from the fact that have version 1.0 of the
software which is unable to interact with slightly more modern servers.
When I boot my //e from AppleShare server it reports v1.5 of the logon
software which is (c) 1992, much better than the (c) 1988 on my software.
So the big question is, is the later version software available anywhere.
