I'm a sort-of-old-timer around here. I really don't care what Tom has
done or not done. The cult of personalities on this group is still
sickening. This group has the weirdest vibe I've ever seen in all of
usenet. There seems to be a group of terminal do-gooders here who have
appointed themselves the "Keepers of the Apple 2 Flame" or something.
It's as disgusting to watch as a family fighting over the corpse of a rich
relative.
The fact of the matter is the Apple 2 is dead, it has been dead for 10
years, and no amount of "but we're still releasing software for it" will
change that. The vast majority of people who come here now are the "I
just picked up a IIgs at a flea market for a dollar and am looking for
some software" type. Or perhaps they just downloaded an emulator to run
on a Mac or a Windows PC and again, are looking for some software.
Neither is interested in spending any money for said software. Just
accept these facts and get over yourselves already!
In any case, I have personally downloaded tons of Apple 2 (and TRS-80,
another long dead system) software from the net over the years. I don't
feel the least bit guilty about it, since this stuff is long out of print
and basically forgotten. It's more historical interest than anything else
that motivates me to collect this stuff.
Having said all that, this is about the 3rd time I've seen Turley do
this. It seems to always be around this time of year also. I'm guessing
he'll be back by February or March, as usual.
