     Most likely, you are getting a messed up download due to Text mode
corruption-- i.e. the file is okay but it gets corrupted on the way to your
disk drive because it is treated as Text and line ender codes are added. This
is a fairly common problem when downloading files using unusual suffixes from
http sites. (Which is why Apple II http sites offering .shk, .sdk, .dsk, etc.
downloads should, in general, put their stuff in .zip files or, at least, use
file names such as "aprogram_shk.bin" .)

     If you are using a PC, you can probably get a good download via a
utility named "Uncook". Go to GS WorldView's current issue at 
http://www.grin.net/~cturley/gsezine/GS.WorldView/v2000/Oct/index.html and
click on "Download Help". You will find directions for Uncook plus a link for
downloading.

     Right-click on adtux.tgz and "Save Link As" to do a fresh download.
After the download, use Uncook on it. The resulting file should be
uncorrupted.
