Re: Turley's Exit from CSA2
Hi all,
There are relatively few old "timers" from CSA2 these days that
actively participate here. Some of them have left the community, some are
lurkers (like me most of the time) and others have moved to Delphi or
other support places.
I am somewhat of an old timer, having participated in this group
starting in early 1995. When I started in the group, I dropped in on
(guess what?) a spat between Dr. Tom and some of the CSA2 community.
I forget what it was about. But over the past 5 years, for any new
comers, there have been still more fights between Dr. Tom and many of the
people here (esp. Joe Kohn, and some of the software developers).
The point here is that quite a few people here are to blame. Dr. Tom
may have done stuff before that people didn't like (piracy, etc). Fine,
but many of us weren't exactly "affected" by this. So the opponents take
a hard line stance and seemingly try to convince others to follow along.
And that gets the Dr. Tom defenders going and boom, we're off to
another flame fest.
I hope we can lay this to rest (permanently). Dr. Tom has threatened
to leave many times and has come back. If he comes back again this time,
then he is opening himself up to criticism.
For those who have felt wronged by Dr. Tom. Well, I'm sorry that
anything happened that would have hurt you. But unfortunately, a lot of
people may not feel that way simply because they are not in a position to
feel that way (they don't sell or program software for example). Even
those who support Dr. Tom have to understand that perhaps some people do
have legit gripes.
But if you're going to spend time trying to get people to change their
views about Dr. Tom just because they don't match yours, well, I think you
are barking up the wrong tree. Why don't you spend some time doing
something productive? I mean, Dr. Tom is just one person in the community
of many. Losting anyone these days hurt no matter what anyone says. But
I think we have others who can "pick up the slack".
Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth.
Now back to your regularly scheduled Apple II programming,
Don
