Apple called it simply the "Apple II memory expansion card" which makes it
confusing to talk about.

The I/O controller card was just a 5.25" controller card.

The Apple "Apple 3.5Floppy Disk Drive Interface card"(usually referred to
as the Liron card), was the card most commonly used to control the 3.5"
UniDisk drive
The Universal Disk Controller(UDC) cards would run the Mac 400k and
800k drives along with the 3.5" UniDisk, 3.5" 800k platinium drives. You
could also use Apples 1.44mb SuperDrive but only as an 800k drive.

The Superdrive card will run 3.5" UniDisk drives, 800k 3.5" platinium
drives
and Apple 1.44mb 3.5" drives

I've used an Apple CD150(1x) with an Apple Rev C SCSI card on a IIe
With the Ramfast SCSI card I've used 2x & 4x NEC drives and 4x & 40x
Toshiba CD drives on the IIe.( the 40x might have been a bit of overkill).
The main problem with using a CD drive on a IIe is that there's not a lot
of
CDs in ProDOS format.
Fortunately I have a CD burner so I can get aroud that issue
There's also no support for playing music CDs with a IIe, however some
drives like the NEC 4x have built in suport and front panel controls for
music CDs
