Guys,
I've been thinking some more about "everything" card. On PC's that
aren't too old (anymore, all of this is integrated on the motherboard),
you'd usually find an ISA card with dual IDE controllers, a floppy drive
controller, parallel port (IEEE 13??) and 2 serial ports. On some, they'd
even throw in a pc style joystick port.
Supposing it could meet the power requirements of the expansion slot,
are most of these desirable on a card for the II ? Are there things that
should go on it, space and power permitting, that I've failed to mention?
Others have mentioned ram expansion cards, and which is preferable to
the other. Is this an area for improvement? It was said that both cards were
1 meg... is there any major reason why this couldn't be 4 megs, or more?
What would be the preferred socket for these? Would going with a 72pin simm
make it less desirable for some?
Also, there was mention of a "clock" card for the appleII. Supposing
this could be emulated in such a way that it was indistinguishable
software-wise from the original... wouldn't this also be a nice thing to
have on the 'everything' card?
I would think that if such a card were made, it would fix alot of the
"card congestion" situations I've heard of. Then again this might not really
be a problem.
Still looking into a VGA card. Nothing I find really rules it out,
though as I suspected, it might be somewhat tricky. No, Voodoo3 chipsets
aren't cheap enough to consider *grin*.
The only other possible upgrade card I can concieve of, would be a sound
card. I really don't see myself as being able to do that though. Shame
though. Eager to hear everyone's thoughts.
Thanks,
John Oyler
