Apple2World Site Down

While many of the people on here preach about being righteous, and
doing the right thing, they apparantly will do immoral things when
things don't go there way...

On October 19th, 2000 - sometime after 3am, the apple2world.com site
was hacked using basic scripts, and a password grabbing program.

This "hacker" was not a genious mind you, but someone who took
advantage of an exploit in one of the applications running on the
server.   He did little more than use methods developed by others to
knock down and lock access out of the apple2world.com site, along with
several nodes of iqintermedia's content servers.

The "hacker" removed log files, to prevent the tracing of the IP and
location of where he was coming from - however, being the amaetuer that
he was, overlooked the fact that the server he exploited was shadowed
by another server, which was NOT affected with his exploit and contains
the log files he thinks he erased - he also (or alteast I would hope)
did not know that the server he knocked offline had Government hosted
services on it.

Normally, this would be an ISP to ISP issue, but since the server
knocked offline was hosting government sites, the FBI is now involved.

It will be interesting to see who turns up with this investigation...

Anyhow, the equipment that ran apple2world.com and iqintermedia.com's
content server has been seized while they pick it apart for the
information they need - so apple2world.com will be down until further
notice... the people in charge of the investigation are estimating a
week or so...

So, if you did it, and you know who you are, get some lube - because I
for one will fully cooperate with anything they need to prosecute your
ass for the federal crime of tampering with a government agency
internet server.
