First, this question should have been posted in comp.sys.mac.printing
(comp.sys.apple2 is for discussion related to the Apple II series of
computers).

The direct way to connect a Windows PC to a LaserWriter series printer is
with a serial (RS232) interface. On a PC, LPT1 is a parallel interface
port - your connection needs to be to the COM1 or COM2 serial ports.
Read the following article from the Apple Technical Information Library:
http://til.info.apple.com/tilarchive.nsf/artnum/n11783
You should pay particular attention to the specifics of the cabling as
described in this article - note that you need not only a serial interface
cable but also a null modem adapter. Since you are using Windows (and the
Windows98 CDROM has a driver for the IIg) you can ignore the article's
references to configuring the serial port under MSDOS. You will need to
configure the driver to print to either COM1 or COM2 (depending on which
port you plug the serial connection from the IIg in to).
