In a phrase:
"That's basically the plan."
:)
I'm designing the database as we speak. It should easily be extensible
as people think of new things to add to the system.
I only have one reservation about having a 'catalogue' as opposed to,
or in parallel with an 'archive.' The major problem with the catalogue
is that all it does is to say 'yes, this software exists,' whereas it's
far more useful to be able to say 'yes, this software exists, and we
have a working copy here.' As you suggested, if the software is in the
archive, and it is reclassified, then yes, the software will become
freely downloadable.
In response to another person's comment, software which is already
public domain in some way (freeware, shareware, etc) will also be
freely downloadable (so long as the person has registered). If problems
with the status of titles are found, then steps can be taken to resolve
the issues.
Any more questions / comments / suggestions (of a constructive nature
like this one was)?
Paul
