Guys,
ABout a month ago, someone offered a 65c816 to me, but like a fool I
didn't bother to write down the name or email. If that person is still
around, and the offer still stands, I'd like to get in touch with them.
Barring that, does anyone know exactly what variety of '816 is in the
Super Nintendo? Or better yet, is it possible to buy these in single
quantities?
In case you are curious, the a2 ethernet project now has solid
schematics, and 75% layout done. We will be recieving chip samples soon, and
it's time for prototyping! Some components we aren't having any trouble
getting samples for, others are mundane and easy to buy or salvage. But
there are a few where this isn't true, and while they are technically cheap,
minimum quantities are getting in the way. The 65c816 is one of these.
When we are ready to send the gerbers off to fab, it looks as if
individual PCBs won't be much more than $15, from several different vendors.
The total cost of the a2 ethernet kit will be below $55 at this point. Also,
our current design uses DIP or socketed components, with only a single SMT
chip.
Thanks,
John Oyler
