Question on the status of Photonix II????

No sarcasm intended - but, I really got a giant laugh out of this �so called�
late breaking news top heading on the a2central.com web site today...

�Photonix II disk copy program now freeware. The popular disk copy utility
Photonix II has been reclassified as freeware, according to Lost Classics
Project director Howard Katz. You can download the software from the Trenco
Apple II Archive.�

What interesting news to read - considering that the author and President of
the
FTA - Olivier Goguel - who had the copyright on Photonix II, released it into
public domain with the full source codes back in 1994.  Olivier sent me the
disk
of the last unfinished version 2.50 of Photonix II with the entire files and
source codes by surface mail parcel from France - back in 1994 with a hand
signed
letter - - included which clearly stated that Photonix II and the source codes
were placed into the public domain and his letter was dated 1994.  I still have
that
original letter.

In fact, Olivier Goguel included in the parcel I received by mail in 1994 - the
entire collective of all the FTA programs, with all their files and source
codes
releasing them to me for public domain release, upload and online distribution.
They have all been available as such from 1994 from the Ground Apple II ftp
site
for public access and download.

The archive of Photonix II with varification as public domain - including the
files that make up the program and the source codes have been available from
virtually every other Apple II ftp site from as far back as late 1994 or early
1995.  It�s been so many years now - I forget the exact date they were all made
available as public domain.

Now my question is this: How can a program placed into the public domain by the
copyright holder and main author (Olivier Goguel) back in 1994 be revealed as
now being reclassified freeware?

I�d love to hear Howard Katz relate how a program that has been public domain
for close to six years and available as such from Ground and most all other
Apple II ftp sites - suddenly become a freeware???

Well, at least it�s nice to see that the Trenco Apple II archive site has
finally gotten around to clearing it for distribution to the public from that
site.
