firewire problem

I've got a new powerbook 400 with firewire ports....but they are not working
! I reformat my hard drive, reinstall my system, zapp the pram..still the
same....maybe a harware problem ? Not sure : i try this afternoon a ratok
firewire pcmcia card : it is just the same !
So please help me if you know how to fix that !
