Well, you're in luck. There are some great emulators for both the PC and
the Mac's. I don't use a Mac myself, but I've heard great things about the
GS emulator Bernie.

For the PC, you have several choices, depending on the OS the PC runs. For
MsDos, there are 2 good ones. The first, ApplePC 2.52 emulates a IIE with
hard disk and extra ram or a //c. The other is Appler which emulates the
older Apple ][+ and offers some interesting features. There are a few more
but these are my favorites. 

For Windows you have the premier emulator package called Apple Oasis. This
system can emulate practically any Apple II around except the GS. It is
the most stable and offers the most configurability. The down side, it is
shareware which may be a problem for classroom use. It might be possible
to make a deal with the author in this case. There is also a GS emulator
for Windows. It's called XGS32. There are earlier versions but they aren't
quite as good as the more recent releases.

There is also a GS emulator called Kegs for the Linux OS. It is by far
the best GS emulator I have found for the PC. I have heard similar of
Sweet 16 and BEos but I know nothing else about either. Since I started
using Linux, I've had little need for another OS.
