Actually, without a battery, a IIgs will operate exactly the same as
it normally does, it just won't remember any control panel settings if
you turn it off.  I you just do resets, the settings will remain.

If your battery dies, you can always turn it on, set all your control
panel settings the way you want and then not turn the computer off
again until you have a new battery to replace the dead one.
