Sure they do (have the time).
For one thing, modern computers do a pretty good job of interfacing to
the net. So, II users can focus upon applications the Apple II handles well
and/or work on hardware upgrades.
The current "powerful machine" platform is a multi-layered kludge of
design compromises which discourages user mastery. In fact, since no one
controls platform parameters, it pretty much discourages mastery by anyone.
In the long run, a much enhanced 21st century Apple II could offer a
high-performance alternative which returns control of personal computing to
the user.
