What was said was:

"Piquette says Microsoft does not differentiate between abandonware and
   traditional software piracy and will pursue both with equal vigor.

   "We go after everything," says Piquette. "We have a full-time group
   that does checks on the Net."

That doesn't sound like they are unaware of the situation, does it?
