Re: multi-tasking on an 8-bit Apple II?

Lack of common interrupts is why GEOS had an optional interrupt
board. The most common interrupt is the mouse system but since most
IIE systems weren't equipped with them, they had to make a
substitute.

It would be possible to create a *nix style system but I think it
would have to be based on a pseudo CPU similar to Aztec C or Hyper C
systems. For best use, it should use a 128k IIE minimum system. These
seem to be really common now. Anyhow, this would allow for better
separation of the system stack and the 65c02 stack. It is a little
slower, but not extremely so. With some decent programmers working
on it, and some tight code, this would be quite possible.

For that matter, the Aztec system is pretty close in feel, it doesn't
have the directory structure but many of it's commands are similar.
Couple that with the programs from Phade and it's a really cool
system to work in. The only problem with Aztec, I can't locate Manx
anywhere. All resources I have seem to be invalid. Too bad, it is a
great system for learning C style programming on the 8 bit systems.
