I use big plastic bins and just bag every thing in anti-static bags.
Bags are cheap and an extra layer of protection. You can find lots of
hundreds of bags on eBay for pretty reasonable prices. I don't like
to put stuff in cardboard boxes because I've had problems over the
years with water, vermin, and crushing. Not often, but it sucks to
dig through a pile of stuff and discover that just the thing you were
looking for got destroyed. Plastics bins have proven pretty much
indestructible
