This sounds like you are referring to the disk with the blinking question
mark when you turn on a Mac. It's not booting from the HD. If yours is a
Mac question your asking it on a pre-Mac computer group.
Otherwise I'm not aware of any blinking icon on an Apple IIGS. When the
IIGS wont boot you get a apple rolling from side to side or cannot load
prodos.
