56k modems, no. Maybe handle raw data at that rate, but 56k modems get that
speed partially through compression. Ethernet is a no. Proxy server through
a serial port, with linux and ppp or slip, is the easiest. Possibly through
localtalk offering more bandwidth, but really difficult (I know from
experience). Also, I'm not sure if there is even software to do tcp over
localtalk, at least with an a2. Check out our a2 ethernet project at
