'locking out' partitions of a hard drive
Some months back the question of how to lock out 'extra' ProDos
partitions of a hard drive was asked. In a followup email discussion
with the poster, it was noted that the RamFast utility will do that, on
a IIGS with a RamFast card. We were not sure if it was possible with
other cards, etc.
Now that I got time to dig out and set up the IIGS which had been stored
away...I played some to see what would happen. I was able to copy the
RamFast utility software off their ram disk to a floppy. I then tried
using it with cards other than the RamFast to see if it would work to
manage what partitions were 'active' on the scsi chain.
It works only with the RamFast card, however. With an Apple High Speed,
Apple Rev C, or CMS card, it starts up, then gives a message about not
finding the RamFast card, and lets you quit the program. I cannot get
to any of the parts of the program that set the active/inactive
partitions.
So...this is not going to work for what the original poster
wanted...unless of course he can find a RamFast. I don't know about the
copyright status of that program. One presumes the limitation of only
working with the RamFast is set in the program somewhere. I would not
have any idea of how to overcome that....does anyone else? Or does
anyone know what happened to the original proprietor of CVTechnology
(Drew?) or whether he would be willing to release/modify that program
now that both CVTechnology and its successor Sequential Systems are
gone?
