Re: Straw vote for creation of comp.sys.apple2.moderated

I vote for "self-moderation."

No, that's not a cop-out. Fractionalizing a herd on the edge of extinction
isn't a wise move. We need all the support that we can muster.

My Apple computer club wanted to split the club's emailed posts into two groups
(Mac and Apple II) almost two years ago. A few of the MacHeads were
complaining about Apple II messages that had nothing to do with their systems.
Besides the fact that there weren't many posts of any sort, this cry was
listened to by the board. I didn't (and still don't) use Macs except as a last
resort or to support the Apple II, so I didn't much use for the Mac post (even
interesting as they sometimes were), but I fought this idea for over a year.

My reasoning was that the Apple II Group, though dedicated, was too small to
maintain a viable posting system. We've been separated into two posting groups
for nearly a year now, with the Apple II group making perhaps one to two every
sixty days. Talk is stronger than ever of leaving the club and breaking off on
our own, but I think that that would kill the Apple II group altogether. How
would new Apple II Users ever find us without the "Mac-Magnet?"

Since spliting into another group doesn't seem to be the answer, but there is a
call for moderation, then use self-moderation. When I see that the posting is
from someone that I don't care to waste my time reading, I just don't.

Life's too short and I'm only running at 1MHz.
