If you want to participate in a moderated discussion of Apple II, visit
Delphi. It already has an established base of users, which will avoid the
birth and growth problems of a new news group. It is also free for message
access and thus serves the purpose of your moderated group without further
fracturing of the current community.

While the idea seems to solve the problems in CSA2, it actually creates
a new set of problems. Division of the community even more than it
currently is. CSA2 will still have it's trouble and new users will still
go there the same as they do now. Some may branch to the new moderated
group, but most will already have developed biased attitudes.

Many, like myself tend to avoid groups which are moderated simply because
I don't like to be told what I can say or how I can say it. This reminds
me of other places in the world where communication between individuals is
restricted because the actions and thoughts of certain personalities
disrupt the control of the communities.

While I may not agree with the thoughts someone expresses, I honor their
right to make those expressions. In the country I live and love, freedom
of speech is a right guarded by our constitution. As a concerned citizen,
I must make every effort to see that right protected. I feel this should
also apply to the newer online community and we must be very protective
of our online freedoms since others are continually trying to take them
away. Of course, you also have the right to create such a group if you
desire, just don't expect it to replace the one currently available.

I have enough to do without monitoring yet another news group. Plus, I
am not so lazy that I can't skip over messages and threads I don't like,
nor filter out posters I don't care for. I know David got disgusted at the
group since he was unable to find something interesting to read. I don't
agree with his solution though. IMHO, if there is nothing noteworthy in
the current crop of messages, perhaps it is time to post something of your
own and improve the quality of the group.

The answer to the problems here have been posted many times. EVERYONE must
ignore the posts from flamers etc, on both sides. Yes, there may always be
posts of this nature, but that doesn't mean they require a response of any
type, from any reader, for any reason. For those who feel they must
repeatedly prove their point, forget it. Most of us are mature enough to
make our own decisions. We are smart enough to know which software should
or should not be copied. For those who feel they must notify others about
the legal status of Apple II programs, how about making a list of known
legal software for posting. There are much more productive methods for
resolving these troubles. Running away from them doesn't solve anything.
