Re: New hardware demo at KFest
Dain,
Please allow me to try again. I know how it is to NOT be an electrical
engineer, or any of the other skills/occupations/talents that might make the
idea of making your own hardware plausible. I'm going to try and not let
that stop me, but if it stops someone else, I certainly understand. I don't
even think any less of them. But there are a few things even you could do,
just the same.
They must not be obvious, so let me politely list a few things, and if
I'm wrong, feel free to flame.
Every piece of hardware you wished existed, but know that it doesn't, TELL
US! Whatever it is. On another forum, someone suggested a USB card for the
gs. Personally, I think that's kinda silly, but there is one thing for
certain. If he hadn't told me, or anyone else, it wasn't more likely to be
made for keeping it secret. Who knows, maybe someone like me will hear your
idea as a challenge.
Offer to help out with a hardware project. No, I'm not hinting at my own,
actually I had that "IDE project" in mind, that someone posted about. There
is always boring stuff that needs to be done, but wastes alot of time.
Simple things like research. Willing to give a few half hours to a team,
searching for pinouts, or chip data sheets, or even just getting price
quotes? These are things that any reasonably intelligent person can do, even
if they aren't a hardware hack.
If you find that stuff boring, you can always offer to work on their
homepage, or coordinate a mailing list. Or a thousand related things. You
get the idea...
Hell, some of these things you could even do informally, even so much as
posting the URL for an interesting article or vendor, just to pique
someone's interest. Come to that, don't wait for someone to post, and say
it's 'about time'. Bitch, moan, whine and throw temper tantrums, but say
something.
Sincerely and with a friendly attitude,
John
PS What do you think of a VGA card for the gs? Complete with hdb15 jack,
like is used on pc monitors?
