That's a serial/parallel/speech output/BSR multifunction card. (maybe
clock too)

The connections to the speaker connection on the apple II motherboard
are for the speech output.

BSR is a system similar to X-10 which will allow you to control
appliances from your computer. Press a button on your keyboard and the
lights in your living room turn on. I think you need an extra
daughterboard to do BSR, but I'm not sure. You'd at least need an
adaptor to go from the card to an outlet, and the outlets/dimmers with
relays in them that respond to signals from the card.

X-10 works by sending a certain frequency throughout your house on the
ground wire. The modules are preset to respond to a certain frequency
(or the ammount of pulses/pulse width) and turn on/off or dim when they
hear it.

If you find the software to control the board, let me know.

I think the connection to the Joystick connector is used for switching
out the cards different features.

If you are interested in a complete multifunction card system, I have a
Mountain Multifunciton card. It does clock/serial/parallel. I have
the box, manuals, disks, everything you need to get it running.

Multifunction cards are neat if you are trying to build the ultimate
IIe system and you are running low on slots.
