Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I agree on the part about the
decrease in demand for hardware, but the prices aren't rising. Sure,
go to Epay and get ripped off. Pay $300 for a card thats worth $25
(all because you can have some buddy of yours go compete with bidders,
even though he'll never buy the product) Sequential Systems is gone,
no more new SCSI cards. BUT...
Less users=less people to buy new software=less development. I know
that there is very little development of new software and hardware
being done, but what's less than very little?
There are a few hackers getting into the Apple II, and creating new
hardware (not commercially, but they are SHARING their designs).. An
IDE interface is in the works (and the developer has stated that he
will share schematics, etc), a FLASHROM card has been developed and the
schematics, drivers are available. A friend of Roy said that he's
working on some neat GS hardware.
The person working on the IDE interface is actually excited and very
willing to share his design and schematics! Why? He doesn't have
drivers coded yet, and he wants some help.
There is the Focus IDE controller. A very good product, but the stock
that Alltech has wont last forever.
The IDE project is sort of an "open source" project mentioned in the
CSA2programmer group. It could grow into an awesome hardware device.
