I've been wondering that myself for quite some time.  What exactly
would these people do if they did know who you were, QC?  If they
wouldn't do anything different than what they are doing now, why do
they need to know?

Also, as you implied, how does anyone know that my name is actually
Jeff Blakeney?  That's the name I typed into my news reader but does
that mean it is actually my name?  In this case it is my real name but
I could just as easily have put John Smith (which is what I've done
with my web browsers to avoid getting any more spam that I already do)
and it would take a fair amount of effort on someone's part to find
out whether I was telling the truth or not provided it is possible for
them to find out.

The whole argument that someone who uses an anonymous poster is a
coward is ridiculous.  Heck, I don't even post my correct e-mail
address here to avoid spam.  You need to CUT the obvious from my
e-mail address that I post here to e-mail me.  Does this make me a
coward in some way?  I don't think so.
