I'm pretty sure it was announced in comp.emulators.apple2 some time in
the past few years. Many people were looking for the disk image of
that game and they were told, possibly by the admin of Asimov (I can't
remember exactly now), that the copyright holder asked that it be
removed as they are still selling that title on another platform. I
believe MECC also requested that none of their titles be made
available as well.
I'm hoping that Howard Katz's session on reclassified software at
KFest this year will include those companies and titles that have
declined to reclassify their software. As it is, I only really know
which companies and titles have been reclassified.
Oh, and if Oregon Trail hadn't been pulled from Asimov years ago, why
did you give a classicgaming.com URL instead of an Asimov one?
As to the status and ownership of Oregon Trail, it remains commercial
as far as I'm aware but the company, Mattel Interactive, no longer
sells the Apple II version.
By the way, Roy is right. It is not up to me to prove that the
software is copyrighted. That is extremely obvious. If people want
to distribute it legally then they need to get permission and have
proof of that permission in case someone questions their activities.
