Here the deal, as I have gleened from others here and elsewhere on Charles
"Dr. Tom" Turley.
I should note that that these are not my personal experiences, but, rather,
what I have heard and perhaps a nugget of truth exist herein somewhere.
cturley2 runs ftp sites for Apple II software. (runs, not hosts) Most of
it, especially the commercial stuff, is still under copyright law, but since
the Apple II is essentially a dead platform and most of this stuff has been
out of print for a decade or two, nobody tends to complain too much.
(although some may have. Again, I haven't seen any)
However, there are still some companies producing and selling software for
the Apple II. It is my understanding that "Dr Tom" put some of this
software on his ftp site w/o the author's permission. This is a special
case. Sierra On-Line has no doubt given up on their A2 software as being
commercially viable, but the producers of this new software are still trying
to make a buck, however small, off of the system.
Furthermore, according to one source, he used some form of bit-editor or
some such and added his name to the title page. (Again, I haven't seen
this) The purpose of this was to identify to software in question as
originaiting from his site. However, some have accused him of doing to make
a name for himself within the A2 enthusiast community w/o having to actually
produce anything (Their words, not mine)
That's the heresay. Personally, I've not had any problems, personally with
the man. But many in the A2 on-line community do, for the reasons above.
Whether the are real or not.
If you give cturley2 ftp space, this is what you'll confront.
