Apple was invited to Xerox PARC to see what was going on there.  Apple
also gave Xerox $1 million in stock for that privilege, stock which 
Xerox later sold for $13 million.  Apple paid to get access to the
GUI and the GUI that was running at Xerox was quite primitive compared
to what Apple came out with on the original Macintosh.

Apple bought a gem of an idea and turned it into something major.
