The NO ROM BASIC message means that you did not use FDISK to set the active
partition.
I have several IBM 540MB SCSI drives. They work fine in PCs with SCSI
cards, but no Apple I own (II or Mac) will see them. Weird.
The first thing you need to connect them to an Apple II is an Apple II SCSI
card. After that, you need a power supply and SCSI cable. You can get an
external hard drive case with power supply for about $40. Any standard Mac
SCSI data cable (DB25 to Centronics 50) should work.
My IIe is powered by a PC power supply. My hard drive sits naked and is
powered by one of the power connectors from the power supply. I have an
adapter for the data cable.
