Re: more newbie IIgs Qs

Hi again John,

Of course this is only my opinion, but there are better methods
of doing most of the things which Appleworks GS does. This was
a program with great ideas but lacked the power to truly fulfill
most of them. To top it off, it really needs a high powered GS
to perform adequately. I think it's saving grace is the desktop
publishing capabilities.

For power and speed, the text mode Appleworks is best. Run it
on an beefed up IIe and it's a powerhouse. To see an example,
use the Apple Oasis emulator, configure it for 1 meg aux ram
and set the cpu speed to 5 mhz (or what your PC can handle) then
put AW to the test. I used this awhile back to print a manual
for Hyper C. I wanted the text to be combined in certain ways.

After (a lot of) editing, I sent the output through Oasis'
printer slot to a printer utility called klikbook. This turned
out pretty nice too. It resulted in a set of booklets that were
4.25" x 5.5"

Unfortunately, I did this at the place I was working at and never
got a chance to get it copied off the computer before I got
injured. Oh well, perhaps I'll tackle this again someday.

or at least interesting.
