This topic comes up every now and again..
Usually suggestions are to break the 32mb limit, allow more files in the
root
directory, lengthen allowable file names and allow spaces and other
currently
illegal characters in the file names.
There's been some interest but not really a lot of demand. One problem is
all
the side effects of a modernized ProDOS. Likely a lot of programs
wouldn't
recognize either the format or if they did then they'd have difficulty
with the
improved file names. Likely virtually all currant disk utilities would't
work
with it and no ones writing new ones.
If the IIgs couldn't use HFS, then there'd be more real demand for an
upgraded ProDOS.
What'd be much more interesting would be a fully functional MS-DOS FST
for the IIgs. Especially since we now have all these Macs without floppy
drives.
