There are several such sites. The formats you usually encounter are .shk
and .sdk ShrinkIt files and .dsk disk image files.

ShrinkIt (.shk and .sdk files) are used almost entirely on Apple II
computers-- after downloading, you transfer the file to your Apple II and use
ShrinkIt to uncompress it. (Note: .sdk files are whole-disk archives and
unshrink to diskette, usually a 5.25" diskette.)

Disk images (.dsk files) are almost always of 5.25" diskettes and are
usually in Zip-ed form (e.g. Ultima1.dsk.gz) to conserve space. After
downloading, use WinZIP to uncompress the file to obtain a .dsk file. These
files can be used as virtual disks on A2 emulators (e.g. running on a PC) or
the files can be transferred to an Apple II and converted to diskette form.
