Yes, I did write and post the above -> and anybody that really knows me would
know it was a simple sarcastic joke post aimed at the A2 vogons
to give them a short thrill in their pathetic existence.
So, followed with this nice post from Ernest - to which I respond:
<<Tom, you would make almost three people happy by doing this; I say almost
three because two of them secretly take advantage of the resources that you
mentioned, and only complain because they have nothing better to do.>>
Yes, I know. Sort of funny isn't it, how they take what I offer in secret then
bitch and moan forever about it in public. That shows where their heads are
at :)
<<That leaves one control freak who would be beside themselves with joy because
they got their way, at everyone else's expense. You know the saying, "it
only takes one control freak to spoil it for everyone.">>
Well, we don't have to worry about that then. There's way more than one
control freak in the A2 world. :)
<<I think that there are many people in this group, and others who don't even
know about this group yet, who would agree with me when I say that I'm glad
that you (and other helpful people like you) are here to help the rest of us
figure out how to do something with our Apple II's. You've been very helpful
to me, and I'm glad that you are here, and I'm glad that there are sources
of free software for me to enjoy.>>
Thanks - I try, I agree and I'll keep trying till my last breath with it all.
you can rest assured of that Ernest.
<<I don't lose any sleep if a hand full of egocentric controlling types are
distressed that a few FTP sites might be distributing software that "they"
are trying to keep the rest of us from enjoying.>>
Fully agreed - I don't lose any sleep over it either. And, as we both know
"they" are just 'pissing in the wind' with their activities in such respects.
<<Try to keep it inperspective, Man, because no matter what you do, there are
always going to be people who don't like it, and they will wail and howl, gnash
their teeth
and pull at their hair like it's the most important thing ever but so what.
That's what the mail filter is for.>>
Yes, mail filters are a wonderful thing. The best stress reduction method this
newsgroup has available. I used to think using a mail filter was a silly
thing. Now, I see it's really a wonderful thing. The Kitty can hiss and spit
till the end of time and I don't have to hear it. Rev. Roy, Penman and the
rest of those that can't handle me can post, debate, rant and rag at me until
they are blue in the face with hate and frustration. I never have to see it.
Yes indeed mail filters make a world of difference in reading this newsgroup.
I'd advise everybody to give it a try.
<<You do what you do because you enjoy it -not for profit, and not for power.
You offer something useful, that's needed and appreciated, and you do it for
free. I'm happy that you do it, and I wish that you could hear all the
whispers of gratitude over the din of a few squeaking wheels.>>
Thanks Ernest - actually I do hear all the whispers of gratitude - mostly via
email
but, that's fine by me. No need of all those people getting into a flamewar
with the squeaking wheels on this newsgroup. I appreciate their thanks by
email more than I would in a post to this newsgroup. But, it's nice to see a
post like yours that really give a true prospective for the reality for all
that want to read it to have that option.
Like I said above I've oiled those 'din of a few squeaking wheels' with the
news filter to the point that I don't hear them at all any more. And using the
same filters with my email I don't have to listen to it via that either.
Let's CLEAN this Apple II community UP completely. Use your newsgroup and
email filters. They're Grrrrrrrrrrrreat! Let those few squeaking wheels piss
in the wind until they dry up and blow away.
Cheers,
Tom
